Abstract
This study investigates the survival practices of Quantity Surveying Firms in a recessed economy, with a focus on Imo State, Nigeria. The construction industry, which Quantity Surveying Firms are a part of, plays a vital role in the nation's economy. However, the current economic recession poses a significant threat to their survival. This research aims to identify the factors affecting the survival practices of Quantity Surveying Firms, assess the level of adoption of survival strategies, and evaluate the impact of these practices on their survival.
A survey research design was employed, and data was collected from Quantity Surveying Firms in Imo State using questionnaires. The results show that Quantity Surveying Firms in the state adopt various survival strategies, including cost reduction, diversification, and innovation. However, the level of adoption varies among firms. The study also reveals that the survival practices have a significant impact on the survival of Quantity Surveying Firms.
This research contributes to the body of knowledge on survival practices in the construction industry and provides insights for Quantity Surveying Firms to develop effective survival strategies in a recessed economy. The findings will also be useful to policymakers and stakeholders in the construction industry.
